Emerging Actor and Comedian Brutha Luv Opens up on His Journey Into Entertainment

Having the gift to make people laugh is something rare and often hard to come by, but for Brutha Luv, it comes as naturally as breathing. Brutha Luv is an individual who is currently trying his luck to pursue a career in entertainment, particularly in comedy. Like most aspiring comedians and actors, Brutha Luv takes heavy influence from many of the great artists in the genre, inspiring him to polish his craft through professional training.

Born in Washington, D.C., Brutha Luv, born Kurtland Elliott II, is the son of Kurtland and Charlene Elliott and brother to Korey Elliott. At nine years old, he and his family would later move to Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he still resides today. Like many comedians, Brutha Luv had the natural ability to bring out laughs from everyone, even as a kid. In family gatherings, he would have his parents, grandparents, and cousins crying from laughter while doing the same thing at school, often earning his parents phone calls.

“I even had to have teachers call the house from time to time because they said I was disrupting the class,” recalled the emerging actor and comedian. “But I was literally just making my peers laugh.”

Brutha Luv was introduced to comedy when he was five or six years old. The film The Original Kings of Comedy drew him into the art of making people laugh, with Bernie Mac’s performance setting the foundations for his goal. Since then, Brutha Luv has been imitating the legendary comedian, quoting every movie line down to a tea. Unfortunately, although he spent a good amount of time making people laugh, some kids never saw eye to eye with his jokes, occasionally getting him popped in the mouth.

He would polish his craft throughout school, joining the chorus in elementary school and later playing Cinderella’s dad in middle school. Brutha Luv would take his craft even further by high school, joining theater for three years. He would also showcase other talents throughout his teen years, busting his dance moves from time to time.

Although he was very passionate in his youth, Brutha Luv would find himself drifting from his passion as he grew older. “Sometimes you catch yourself doing things because you think it’s what your parents want you to do, or others think you should do it,” he elaborated. Then, in 2018, Charlene Elliott, his mother, had a severe stroke, and two years later, his father would have his leg amputated. The two events caused Brutha Luv to turn his back on his love for a time and instead find work as a server and bouncer.

The hiatus was short-lived as Brutha Luv found himself eager to get back in the game with the resolve of pursuing a professional career as a comedian and actor. He would enroll in the John Casablancas Acting & Modeling School, releasing clips on Instagram and TikTok and capturing the attention of celebrities like NFL legend Clinton, Portis, R&B singers Brandy and Keyshia Cole, Ceelo Green, actors Kel Mitchell and Michael Rainy.

With his dreams closer than ever, Brutha Luv is optimistic about landing major roles in film and television after completing acting school this 2022. But, regardless of his endeavors, the comedian is eager to find ways to improve his craft to continue entertaining others.“I want the readers to know, whatever dream you have, go for it. Never do things based on what you think this person or that person wants you to do. Do the things YOU love. Don’t listen to the naysayers just keep pushing and always grinding and whatever faith you believe keep that first as well you’ll go a long way. I want the reader to know, no matter where you are on the globe, you can do it,” Brutha Luv said.
