Grammy Awards 2023: Beyoncé Leads Nominations

On Tuesday morning, the Academy announced the nominations for the 65th Grammy Awards. Beyoncé has the most nominations, with nine. Kendrick Lamar has eight, and Adele and Brandi Carlile are tied with seven. Also, Future, Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, and Randy Merrill are all in the race with six nominations each.

In recent years, there have been few big surprises when the Grammy nominations came out in this field.

Instead, most of the nominations went as expected. Beyoncé, Adele, Styles, Kendrick Lamar, and Lizzo are all up for the record, album, and song of the year, which are the top three categories for all types of music.

Mary J. Blige and ABBA did better than expected in these top categories. They nominated them for record and album of the year but not for song of the year. The last time the Grammys nominated Blige was 16 years ago.

They nominated Steve Lacy in two categories.

Latin music needed to break out of the general categories that some people were expecting. They nominated Bunny for album of the year, which many people consider the most important award. Since the Grammys began in the 1950s, very few albums that were not in English have won.

The bad news was that Bad Bunny only got two nominations. Some people also thought Rosala could be in one of the top categories. But that didn’t happen because she only got one nomination for a best music film. On the other hand, Anitta got into the best new artist field, which wasn’t a surprise.

Country music fell off

Even in terms of the nominations, it wasn’t a big year for country music. Few country artists made it into the top four general categories. Morgan Wallen, even though, along with Bad Bunny, he was one of the two most famous artists during the time of the nominations. Zach Bryan, one of the biggest stars of 2022, only got one nomination. And it wasn’t for best new artist, which almost everyone thought he would win.a

Taylor Swift is also running for one of the top three awards. They nominated her song “All Too Well (10-Minute Version)” for song of the year. Doja Cat, whose hit album was in the running last year, is up for the single “Woman.” Coldplay, DJ Khaled, Gayle, and, to everyone’s surprise, Bonnie Raitt, who won the most Grammys in the 1990s.

Grammys did not nominate Gayle after “abcdefu” was nominated for song of the year. She wasn’t included in the category for best new artist. Which has well-known names like Anitta, Omar Apollo, Latto, Muni Long, Maneskin, and Wet Leg. And Domi & JD Beck, Samara Joy, Molly Tuttle, and Tobe Nwigwe are the more challenging to guess.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are tied for the most Grammy nominations, with nine each.

From Dec. 14 to Jan. 4, people will vote on the nominations. The Academy winn announce winners live on CBS on Feb. 5, 2023, from L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena.
