Naturally, most musicians fall under a specific genre. No one knows why. It’s just the way things have been. But a new musician artist is challenging that preconceived notion with an album that crosses across multiple styles. Most people in the music world know him as Grey_hart, a songwriter breaking music boundaries with a style that crosses across multiple categories.
Ian Westervelt, or otherwise known by his musician artist Grey_hart, works out of Denver, Colorado. However, the thirty-year-old artist grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where he got exposed to music early on. When he isn’t working on his music, Grey_hart also likes to dive into gaming. In 2020, Grey_hart first broke into the scene after launching an EP album entitled The Summit. His experimental releases included songs like “The Bends,” “Sweet Escape,” “King of Hearts,” “Amazing Heights,” “Fork in the Road,” and “For(n)ever.” The collection also featured artist Adam Pestana, who played some part in developing the song “For(n)ever.” In 2021, he launched his first album independently. The record carried the title $ Cash_cat $ and included songs like “Pass the Light,” “Going the Distance,” “Lock and Key,” “Gone Fishin’,” “Waiting…,” and many others.
The artist is currently working on a project that will push the limits of his personal music journey and possibly the local music scene. The record will feature songs that cross genres and provide something for a larger string of music lovers. “The most unique thing about the project is the lack of limits put on what genre is being created at the moment,” shares Grey_hart. “There’s a song for every feeling.”
Recently, the musician announced that he would be joining the Astronaut Boyz, a production house that has made headlines as it continues to spot and develop new talent. The label has been working alongside Grey_hart to conceptualize his first collection of tracks, which could hit the market very soon, although no official announcements have come out yet.
“I was motivated to join ABI from the start of conversations with the label, especially after seeing the level of connections they have,” explains Grey_hart on the decision to join Astronaut Boyz. “Hearing BWillz, another artist they have on the roster, helped too.” The musician shares how he found the team intuitive, business savvy and “down to put in the work.” All in all, the decision seemed like a done deal. Today, the artist looks forward to growing in and with the label as plans for multiple projects are now in the works.
Grey_hart likes to bring together a “vibey mix” of pop, hip-hop, and alternative music. Though, he shares that this collection could expand as he looks for ways to improve his talent. His songwriting skills also have become a noteworthy part of his work as people have praised him for his ability to string together words that move away from the cliche approaches.
The musical artist from Denver remains hungry for more growth opportunities. He hopes to work his way up the ladder and possibly even win some music awards in the future. To learn more about Grey_hart and check out his music, visit his Instagram and Spotify.
