Otero did not come to the industry through sales or finance, the way many do. He grew up around it. As a kid, he spent years helping his father and grandfather manage the family’s rental properties across Los Angeles, learning how buildings actually operate rather than how they look on paper. He handled repairs, dealt with tenants, kept up aging assets, and saw the realities of ownership in some of the city’s tougher neighborhoods.
That hands-on education eventually combined with formal training. He earned a degree in Real Estate, studied Business Law, and pursued his broker’s license at the same time. He became a licensed broker at age 20.
Lessons From A Large Portfolio
After school, Otero established himself in property management, working with residential and commercial portfolios over the course of his career. According to Otero, that work included helping oversee nearly $200 million in residential and commercial real estate assets.
The experience taught him what many owners look for most: organized systems, timely responses, and confidence that their property is being handled carefully. It also exposed a recurring problem. Many management companies still rely on outdated processes, slow communication, and difficult workflows that can frustrate owners and residents alike. Otero believed there was a better way to approach the work.
