“I Want to Know Your Story” Battles Prejudice and Promotes Empathy One Story at a Time

Stories are powerful not only for the wealth of information they hold but also because of their ability to evoke emotions, spark one’s imagination, and influence action. More often than not, stories are also wielded to shed light on important issues, as well as send across messages of hope and inspiration. As a firm believer of the capacity of stories to create change and impact lives, Leslie Grodin, the visionary behind “I Want To Know Your Story,” hopes to promote understanding by bringing to the forefront the realities faced by individuals living different lives.

I Want To Know Your Story is a series of episodes whose launch is driven by the mission of building a world with less judgment, more empathy, and understanding. Coming to terms with how she is no exception to the universal propensity of human beings to judge others through first impressions, Leslie Grodin admitted that it is not fair to jump to conclusions about people one has just met. “I didn’t think that strangers were deserving of that judgment and if I only knew more about them, I could relate to them better,” she expounds. This acknowledgment would then serve as the seed that would grow into what would become a rising Youtube channel.

I Want To Know Your Story first made waves on November 6, 2019, when Leslie Grodin posted the first episode on Youtube. Today, it has now evolved into a content-rich platform that consists of interviews done by the purpose-driven self-starter, providing stories that hope to maneuver viewers away from the instinctual act of judging others and toward the fruitful endeavor of asking more.

Since its introduction to the digital space and viewers worldwide, I Want To Know Your Story has managed to reach and touch countless individuals. On top of emphasizing the value of understanding and empathy, it has highlighted the fact that people are not alone in their struggles and successes.

With the current sense of disconnect that millions of people worldwide feel because of COVID-19 and the pandemic-imposed quarantines and lockdowns, anyone could easily succumb to loneliness and assume that there are no better days ahead. I Want To Know Your Story addresses this by creating a sense of community among people, from all walks of life, through sharing stories that resonate.

I Want To Know Your Story boasts over 63 interviews that were all posted in just over a year. Every episode has earned nods of approvals and compliments from viewers who appreciate not only the stories shared but also the purpose behind the platform.

In the coming months, I Want To Know Your Story plans to tell more tales that viewers can relate to and connect with. More than anything else, it aims to continue creating linkages among people despite the numerous barriers — physical, language, nationality, etc. — that divide them. By wielding the power of stories, it hopes to contribute to a world with less judgment and more empathy and understanding.
