Manny Khoshbin: A True Epitome of the American Dream and Self-Made Man

Many people coming into the United States have all kinds of goals and ambitions, and a handful ends up making those dreams a reality. One such individual is a serial entrepreneur named Manny Khoshbin, whose story has become a source of inspiration for real estate professionals, business owners, and immigrants for several years since putting his story out in the open. Here’s Manny’s story.

Manny Khoshbin’s family originally hails from Iran. During the war, the whole family moved to Orange County to flee the conflict and find a better life in the land of plenty. At only fourteen years old, Manny went straight to work to help his family out. Unfortunately, times were hard for them as new entrants into the United States. So much so that the family spent some time living in their car before Manny’s father landed a job and moved the whole clan into a humble apartment. 

Manny’s first “hustle” was selling well-used goods at local swap meets on the weekends. He gave all he made back to his family to help make ends meet. Later on, he would get a job at a local Kmart, earning $3.25 an hour as a grocery clerk. After two years in employment, he saw an opportunity in selling peanuts, which would become a $4,000 a month business in no time. But with very little knowledge of the permits and legalities behind a food business, the local health authorities would order Khoshbin to cease operations. 

With around $20,000 in savings, Manny looked for the next opportunity. He would put all his hard-earned money into a local gas station through a broker who ended up being a scam artist who disappeared with all of the entrepreneur’s money. Having to start from scratch, Manny went back into the workforce and got a job at a Winston’s Tire Shop. While working there, he started asking his wealthier clients what work they got into and discovered that most of them were in real estate. One customer of Manny’s offered him a job as a loan processor, which Manny took. 

After getting the hang of the real estate industry, Manny partnered with a broker and started his own mortgage company in which he landed a huge deal that put him on the local realty map. At the age of twenty-two, Manny was earning up to thirty grand a month. But challenges would come knocking at the door once more after the mortgage industry took a hit. Manny and his partner would open a 79 cent store to compete with the local 99 stores, which did relatively well. But after opening two branches, a Food4Less chain opened near their location and hit the business hard. So Manny would buy out his partner, turn the business around and sell it for a profit after paying off outstanding debts. 

The entrepreneur put what money he had made from the 79 cent store sale in the stock market and doubled it right before the economic crash in 1999. With the profit, he bought a small shopping center in Whittier, California, for $200,000. Then, Manny put the remaining profit into a larger foreclosed property, which he would flip to make a million dollars in one go. 

Today, Manny Khoshbin’s journey has come full circle as he has become one of the most prominent real estate entrepreneurs in Orange County.
