Electronic music continues to evolve rapidly, with genres blending and trends recycling as audiences search for something that feels genuinely new. Emerging at the intersection of tradition and disruption is OSSIEN, the artist project of Mark Mossien. The project is beginning to carve out a distinct identity in the global bass music scene. With a foundation rooted in 17 years of live jazz performance and a transition into dubstep and electronic production, OSSIEN brings a musicianship-driven approach to the genre.
OSSIEN is not a typical electronic act. By fusing performed jazz elements such as swing rhythms, big band textures, and live instrumentation, including saxophone, clarinet, and piano, with the intensity of dubstep, OSSIEN is developing a sound that stands apart in the genre.
This goes beyond surface-level inspiration. The approach integrates live jazz performance into modern bass music production, placing OSSIEN within the developing space of jazz-influenced bass music.
From Stability to Reinvention

Two years ago, Mark Mossien lived a different life. After graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in computer science, he worked as a software engineer. At 24, that path changed when he was laid off.
At the time, he had not released music and had no audience. Most would have pursued another stable job. Instead, he committed fully to music.
The decision came from clarity. Years of musical training had built a foundation, but it had not been fully pursued. The layoff forced a shift. OSSIEN became the vehicle for that commitment.
Building From Zero
Entering the music industry without connections or an audience required learning every aspect of the business. OSSIEN developed skills in production, sound design, branding, and marketing from scratch.
The transition also brought challenges. Moving from a structured career into an uncertain creative path created isolation and doubt. OSSIEN has described this stage as a middle ground between two identities.
That period became foundational. By documenting the journey publicly, OSSIEN built an early connection with an audience that related to both the process and the progression.
Momentum and Industry Recognition
Growth followed quickly. OSSIEN secured releases on established labels including Monstercat, Cyclops Recordings, Wubaholics, and High Caliber Records.
Support from established artists in the bass music scene further validated the project, with figures such as Subtronics, LSDREAM, GRiZ, Flux Pavilion, Virtual Riot, and Wooli backing the music.
OSSIEN has accumulated hundreds of thousands of streams and built an audience of tens of thousands of followers across platforms.
On the performance side, OSSIEN has toured across more than 10 states and performed internationally, including a headlining festival appearance in Quebec.
Beyond the Artist Project
Alongside his music career, OSSIEN built Holistic Creativity, a mentorship platform for electronic music producers focused on sound development and personal branding.
The platform operates alongside the artist project, with the two efforts informing each other. The artist’s career provides applied experience, while the mentorship platform extends the same musical principles to other producers building their own work.
Philosophy and Positioning
The OSSIEN brand is built on alignment. The core belief is that individuals are responsible for creating their own direction.
According to OSSIEN, ignoring creative potential leads to dissatisfaction, while pursuing it opens opportunities across multiple areas of life.
This message has become part of the brand identity, attracting an audience that connects with both the music and the perspective behind it.
The Future of Jazz-Driven Bass Music
Looking ahead, OSSIEN aims to scale into a larger headlining act. Target festivals include Lost Lands, Electric Forest, EDC, Lollapalooza, and Coachella.
The differentiation lies in performance. OSSIEN integrates live jazz instrumentation into bass music sets, creating a hybrid experience rooted in musicianship rather than standard DJ performance.
On the production side, OSSIEN plans to expand through label releases and crossover collaborations.
Holistic Creativity is expected to grow into a larger educational platform for electronic music producers.
A New Category Emerging
In a space where many artists follow trends, OSSIEN is building a distinct lane. The combination of jazz training, technical production, and brand clarity gives the project an identifiable place in the genre.
The jazz-meets-bass-music approach is not widely developed, and OSSIEN is among the artists working in this space deliberately.
This direction reflects a broader shift toward authenticity and live musicianship in electronic music.
As the project continues to expand, OSSIEN points toward a clear direction in bass music, driven by real instrumentation, disciplined execution, and a defined artistic identity.
