Authenticity is a must in establishing a promising music career in an industry that is highly competitive and very demanding. Coming up with a genuine brand will not only differentiate an artist from the others, it will also attract the right kind of music lovers and potential collaborators. Rising music artist Paapa-Berchie knows this challenge all too well, and it is for this same reason that he chose to establish his unique artistry that highlights his extraordinary gift to be able to sing various styles, including classical, pop, hip-hop, R&B, and Gospel music. He is daring to break the norms to introduce his brand of musicality that is unheard of.
The singer and songwriter hailed from Crofton, Maryland, and grew up singing in church and school choirs, sharpening his singing skills by being in acapella groups. He would even make it up to national competitions. Paapa-Berchie is very strong when it comes to classical singing, and his extraordinary gift landed him a scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill. It was during his time in college that he realized music would become his greatest passion. The more he sang, the more he was prompted to create his own music.
His music is a remarkable combination of several music genres. Whenever he goes into the studio, he is surely making another masterpiece. In 2019, he released an explosive single titled “Dreams.” It was followed by the release of “The Throne” and “So Bad” featuring Naim, from his E.P. Be Blessed. Just recently, Paapa-Berchie released his second mixtape O.P.E.R.A., featuring the singles “ToDal Wave,” “Hometown,” and “Lavi$h.”
“I know that out of all my competitors, there is not a soul that would be able to do the same thing I am doing. The style I bring is unique, provocative, and intriguing,” Paapa-Berchie revealed. “The style of music that I am creating is a totally brand new sound, which is taking classical-voice and putting it in genres such as hip-hop, R&B, and afrobeat/ Caribbean. Instead of giving consumers something that is almost considered the ‘typical rapper/singer,’ I bring a whole new vibe and joy to the game. I am not afraid to be my most authentic self with other people as well, which shines a light on my personality and flair when it comes to presenting myself as the total artist,” he added.
Just like many music artists in the industry, Paapa-Berchie looks up to his musical influences for inspiration. He is mostly drawn to the stylings of Tupac, Travis Scott, Notorious B.I.G., Kendrick Lamar, H.E.R., Meek Mill, Lucky Day, Rhianna, Masego, S.I.R., Ty Dolla Sign, Kehlani, and J. Cole.
By combining their unique styles, he stumbled upon his own distinct branding that makes him one of the most promising artists in the business today.
Apart from being a versatile singer, he is also a gifted instrumentalist and Twi speaker who can play the piano and saxophone, among others. Paapa-Berchie understands fully well that fans are tired of commonplace pop music and are continually searching for original sounds that they will enjoy long-term. Through his special kind of music, he hopes to be instrumental in reshaping the future of the music industry. Learn more about Paapa-Berchie by visiting his website.
