Introducing Douglas Tyler McKee, better known by his stage name DTM, a multifaceted artist who has captured the hearts of music enthusiasts with his unwavering passion and remarkable talent. From humble beginnings in Bullhead City, Arizona, DTM’s journey serves as a testament to the power of determination and self-belief.
Growing up, DTM was deeply involved in sports, participating in soccer, baseball, and football. While his teenage years hinted at a potential career in college football, his heart beat to the rhythm of music. Exposed to his father’s masterful piano playing, his mother’s love for 80s rock and pop, and his grandfather’s appreciation for classical melodies, DTM’s childhood was steeped in a rich musical atmosphere that ignited a lifelong passion.
During his senior year of high school, DTM took a leap of faith and joined the choir and musical programs, ultimately landing the lead role of Marius in his school’s rendition of the renowned musical “Les Miserables.” This experience kindled an even deeper love for music within him, setting the stage for the remarkable journey that lay ahead.
In 2015, DTM graduated from high school and embarked on a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Southern Utah University. It was during his time at the university that he forged friendships, including one with a like-minded individual who shared his musical aspirations. Together, they delved into the creation of music, exploring various genres and producing eight singles as a dynamic hip-hop producer/artist duo. This period allowed DTM to refine his songwriting and performance skills while gaining invaluable insights into the production process.
Following his college graduation and subsequent relocation to Northern Utah, DTM faced new challenges. The physical distance between him and his music partner posed difficulties in continuing their collaboration. Undeterred, DTM made a pivotal decision to invest in himself. Utilizing his resources, he established a small home studio and dedicated countless hours over the next three months to mastering beat-making, mixing, mastering, and engineering.
The culmination of DTM’s unwavering dedication and tireless efforts manifested in his latest single, “Talk Like That.” This track not only marks his first completely solo project but has also garnered the fastest-growing and most enthusiastic response among his repertoire. Released just a week ago, “Talk Like That” has captivated listeners who may have previously overlooked DTM’s musical journey, leaving him humbled and inspired.
Reflecting on the past three years, DTM views his musical odyssey as an invaluable experience he wouldn’t trade for anything. From navigating the challenges of making and releasing music as a financially constrained college student to overcoming the trials of long-distance co-production, each step has been tailor-made for his growth and has fueled his unwavering passion for music.
As of June 29, 2023, seven days since the release of “Talk Like That,” DTM’s music has caught the attention of numerous individuals who have now recognized and celebrated his artistic journey. This response has not only inspired him but has also reinforced the importance of trusting the process. With the success of “Talk Like That” as his foundation, DTM envisions a future filled with further accomplishments and continued upward momentum.
