The singer, songwriter and producer reaches a new career milestone as her original music becomes part of a film centered on family, grief, love and legacy.

Music has a way of reaching emotional spaces that dialogue alone sometimes cannot. For singer, songwriter and producer Robyn Williams, that power has taken on new meaning as her original song, “Quiet Calm,” becomes part of the cinematic storytelling of Ruby’s Heart.
The film, directed by Obba Babatundé and Millena Gay, explores family, loss, grief and everlasting love and was inspired by Gay’s grandmother, Ruby. Its cast includes Babatundé, Dawnn Lewis, Angela Gibbs, Starletta DuPois and Corey Havis. The project was also named an official selection of the 2026 Diversity in Cannes Virtual Short Film Showcase, bringing the deeply personal story to an international platform.
For Williams, having “Quiet Calm” selected for the film represents much more than another credit. It marks an important intersection between two forms of storytelling that have long been at the center of her creative journey: words and music.
“I am deeply honored and grateful that my original song, ‘Quiet Calm,’ was selected for the film Ruby’s Heart,” Williams said. “To have my music become part of a film that has received international recognition makes this moment especially meaningful to me.”
The placement is particularly fitting considering the emotional foundation of the film. Ruby’s Heart was born from Gay’s relationship with her grandmother and explores the enduring bonds that remain even through grief and loss. Williams’ music now becomes another voice within that story, helping carry its emotional message through sound.
“As a music producer and songwriter, I have always believed that music has the power to give a story another voice,” Williams said. “Having ‘Quiet Calm’ contribute to the emotion and storytelling of Ruby’s Heart is a tremendous honor and an important milestone in my musical journey.”
That belief in music’s ability to communicate beyond words has been a recurring thread throughout Williams’ creative path.
Her journey into music is one shaped by life experience, purpose and evolution. Williams has brought the discipline and perspective developed through her military background into a creative career centered on songwriting, producing and recording. Rather than allowing herself to be defined by one chapter of her life, she has continued creating new ones.
“Quiet Calm” now adds film placement to that evolving story.
The achievement also comes as Ruby’s Heart continues building its own momentum. In 2026, the film was selected for the Diversity in Cannes Virtual Short Film Showcase, an independent program designed to increase international visibility for diverse filmmakers and storytellers. The virtual showcase was presented alongside the live Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase taking place in France during the Cannes Film Festival.
For an independent artist, having original music connected to a film reaching audiences beyond the United States can open an entirely different avenue for discovery. A song is no longer experienced only as a recording; it becomes attached to characters, imagery and emotion, and can potentially reach audiences who may be hearing the artist for the first time.
For Williams, however, the significance remains deeply personal.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to director Millena Gay and everyone involved with Ruby’s Heart on this outstanding achievement,” she said. “I am proud and thankful to have contributed my music to this production.”
There is something especially appropriate about a song titled “Quiet Calm” finding its way into a story rooted in memory, love and the emotional connections people carry with them.
One tells its story through images and performances. The other speaks through melody.
Together, they demonstrate what can happen when music and film meet in the same emotional space.
And for Robyn Williams, “Quiet Calm” now has a life extending beyond the recording itself. It has become part of a cinematic story, and another milestone in a musical journey that continues to unfold.
