Not everyone is born to build a life as a musician, but singer and rapper SaraSoUnique has music in her blood. Raised in a family that is passionate about music, she is now making her mark in the music industry as an up-and-coming artist. After learning to make her own music, she is ready for her songs to be heard and her talent to be seen.
Sara McCoy, better known as singer and rapper SaraSoUnique, was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and raised in North Carolina. Coming from a family with incredible musical talent, it comes as no surprise that her parents discovered this artist’s incredible singing abilities when she was only two years old. Since then, she has been encouraged to embrace and love music. “My parents were always playing music around our home when I was a child,” Sara explained, “And my extended family was also big on music. John Coltrane, the saxophonist, is my cousin.”
At fourteen, SaraSoUnique wrote her first rap song. ““I’ve always wanted to be a rapper since I was like seven years old and sing since forever, so when I learned to make my own music I knew there would be no stopping me,” she said. Soon after, she started recording her songs on her laptop. Sara even taught herself how to produce her own beats and how to share her songs online. “I hear songs in my sleep. Songs that I have never heard before, and I wake up feeling inspired to write and record,” the artist shared, “I’m very hands-on with my music. I write my songs, perform them, and produce the tracks.”
On June 4th, she released her first single, “Runnin’ Up the Check.” The song was warmly received by her fanbase, who are lovingly called Rare Hearts. SaraSoUnique appreciates the support she gets from her fans, saying, “I love them all! And I want them to feel loved, inspired, and gassed up whenever they hear my music.” Sara is currently hard at work on new music and an upcoming album. “I want to put out work that I am proud of,” the artist shared, “I don’t want my talents to get buried, so I am working on new music right now. I also plan to release music videos this year.”
SaraSoUnique intends to expand her reach in the music industry, and she has collaborated with other artists in a bid to reach more people. She revealed, “There are a few projects in the works. But I don’t want to say too much yet. So fans will have to stay tuned for further updates!”
Like so many of the artists and musicians that have come before her, SaraSoUnique has her unique methods of writing a song. “Often, I dream about new music,” Sara said, “But there are also times where I like to feel the music. I would hum sounds to a track then feel it out again. Then, I would go back and add words to match until it felt right for the track. I believe that expressing myself from the heart is what makes my music great.”
SaraSoUnique stands out from other artists because she embraces her uniqueness and her identity. “Making music is a big part of who I am. And I want my listeners to know that they should celebrate themselves and who they are. They can do anything they set their minds and hearts to. I never doubted that I would release my first single, ‘Runnin’ Up the Check.’ And now here I am, still making more music.”
