Texas school Shooting: Harry Styles donates $1 million to gun safety organization

Harry Styles wants to make a difference in the fight against gun violence. Following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, 2022, the Harry’s House celebrity announced on social media that he will be working with the gun control organization Everytown for Gun Safety.

The 28-year-old has vowed to donate $1 million (£790,760) to Everytown for Gun Safety, an American group that works for gun reform and the prevention of gun violence. The singer’s vow comes in the wake of last week’s horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

On Tuesday (24 May), Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old gunman, opened fire at Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School, killing 19 students and two adults. Officials say Ramos entered the school armed with a handgun and a rifle before opening fire.

Shortly after the shooting, a number of US celebrities reacted, with many blaming the government for failing to adopt appropriate gun control legislation.

The $1 million will come from the North American leg of Styles’ current Love On Tour tour, which he has personally pledged to donate.

“Like all of you, I’ve been profoundly horrified by the recent run of mass shootings in America, culminating in the most recent in Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas,” the singer said on Instagram.

“As part of our North American tour, we’ll be collaborating with Everytown for Gun Safety, donating to support their efforts, and sharing their recommended action items.

Soon after Styles’ donation was announced, Live Nation announced that it will match the singer’s donation to Everytown, “totaling over $1 million and counting.”

The Uvalde school shooting is the deadliest in Texas history. The cause of the incident has not been revealed, although authorities claim the man acted alone. Selena Gomez and Jamie Foxx, both from Texas, have spoken out about the tragedy and advocated for gun reform.

Taylor Swift sent a statement in response to the several shootings across the country, as well as sharing the now-viral video of Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr calling for gun reform in the aftermath of the Uvalde shooting.

The Red artist began, “Filled with fury and anguish, and so broken by the murders in Uvalde.” “By Buffalo, Laguna Woods, and a slew of other locations. By the manner in which we have become accustomed to incomprehensible and agonizing pain as a country. Steve’s remarks ring true and pierce the heart.”
