The Zero Negative Foundation: Inspiring Healing with Love

By: CC Agency

Meet Jenn and Stacey, the dynamic duo behind The Zero Negative Foundation (ZNF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring cancer patients to heal themselves with love. Jenn Greenhut, a stage IV triple-negative breast cancer survivor, and Stacey Uberstine, a stage II ER-positive survivor, established ZNF to give love, support, and specially curated tote bags to breast cancer patients, empowering them to embrace the care and compassion they deserve throughout their journey to healing. While we may not be able to hold their hand physically, our aim is to be their cheerleaders, sending love and prayers every step of the way.

The Beginning:

In January 2017, Jenn embarked on a profound journey as she confronted stage IV triple-negative breast cancer. Instead of succumbing to despair, she chose to perceive cancer as a “blessing,” seeking the silver linings and lessons hidden within its challenges. Just four months after her diagnosis, Jenn emerged cancer-free. Determined to share her transformative journey, and to inspire love, gratitude, and trust for every life challenge, she founded Zero Negative. Zero Negative sold accessories that said “love” and donated a portion of proceeds to UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation.

Fast forward to 2022, where fate brought Jenn into the orbit of Stacey Uberstine, a recent breast cancer survivor who had a passion to give back and help patients feel supported through treatment. United by their shared interest in philanthropy and compassion for cancer patients, Jenn and Stacey joined forces and turned Zero Negative into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation, maintaining the vision of spreading love, supporting patients, and giving back to research.

But how?

The funny (or not so funny) thing about their partnership is how different their cancer journeys were. “I truly believe cancer was the best thing to happen to me,” reflects Jenn. “The endless lessons about love and gratitude, learning how powerful our minds are, and the awareness that life is a gift, even when it sucks … these will be in my heart forever. More so, I trust life now. I see how my soul arranged a stage IV cancer journey to make me ‘better,’ wiser, and to realize my purpose in life … to give love, receive love, and be love, for patients, caregivers, survivors, and ALL humans.”

Stacey, on the other hand, had a very difficult experience. First, she went through cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic. No one could accompany her to the many chemo rounds, be by her side after surgery, or hold her hand for the weekly doctor’s appointments. Not only did she worry about getting through treatment, but she also worried about NOT getting COVID-19. She knew she had the support of her family and friends, but she had to keep her distance, leaving her in isolation and fear.

Needless to say, Stacey didn’t LOVE cancer. Yet, she didn’t hate it. She didn’t think that way. She instinctively trusted she would have a happy ending and lived one day at a time, dealing with everything as it came. Her biggest takeaway, along with learning her strength and resilience, was understanding the importance of comfort and companionship for individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Moved by her experience, Stacey was compelled to make sure no patient would have to go through treatment without a support team.

After many conversations, Jenn and Stacey uncovered a common thread they knew to be invaluable: family, friends, love, connection, and community. Whether it was through texts, prayers, cards, gifts, food, visits, or phone calls, knowing someone was thinking of them and who had their back proved to be a powerful source of encouragement. It sets the stage for healing, allowing for each patient to focus on themselves and what they need to do. “We take care of loving them from the outside,” Jenn says, “so they can focus on loving themselves from the inside.”

Thus, the concept of “Chemo Love Totes” was born—a tangible expression of love and support for breast cancer patients undergoing treatment. Each tote is crafted with items drawn from Jenn and Stacey’s own treatment experiences, infused with prayers, intentions, and purpose. In addition, every tote provides access to Jenn’s Spotify playlist – music to soothe the soul, mantras to calm anxious minds, and intentions to say before each chemo round. Plus, there’s a special list of “chemo perks” to uplift spirits when they’re needed most.

Their approach to reaching patients comes full circle, with a strategic focus on collaborating with UCLA, the institution where it all began. Through this partnership, they aim to extend their reach to a network of 35 treatment centers across Los Angeles County, ensuring that their message of love and support reaches newly diagnosed breast cancer patients in diverse communities.

At the heart of their mission lies a belief in the profound healing power of love. Jenn and Stacey know that love is not just an emotion but an energy—a force capable of catalyzing transformation and fostering resilience in the face of adversity. Guided by the timeless wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi— Be the change you wish to see —they invite others to join them and The Zero Negative Foundation as they focus on giving love to patients, receiving love from donors, and standing in love for cancer patients and their families.

The Zero Negative Foundation (ZNF), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was founded by breast cancer survivors Jenn Greenhut (stage IV triple-negative survivor) and Stacey Uberstine (stage II ER-positive survivor) with a clear mission: to provide love, support, and specially curated tote bags to breast cancer patients, empowering them to embrace and receive the care and compassion they deserve throughout their healing journey.

They specialize in crafting “Chemo Love Totes” that transcend mere comforting items, meticulously curated with wisdom and insights from Jenn’s and Stacey’s experiences. Additionally, every tote is blessed with prayers and healing intentions, ensuring no patient feels alone during treatment.

Lastly, ZNF is committed to expanding a product line that spreads love and gratitude, supporting patients, caregivers, and survivors, and contributing to cancer research at UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation. With your generous donations, Jenn and Stacey can continue to assist all patients in turning a negative cancer diagnosis into a positive, transformative experience … one Chemo Love Tote at a time.
