Oklahoma has witnessed a musical phenomenon as of late. As some of the United States’ Country music artists move away from high rise and dense cities, Quiet cities like Tulsa have given birth to sensational artists. One great case is the four-piece sibling group, Voth.
Composed of Caleb (vocals and guitar), Hannah (vocals), Cody (vocals), and Jacob (drums), the alternative country band brings a fresh wave of contemporary music that is capturing the hearts of many in Oklahoma and beyond. Their rise gained strength back in 2018 after the launch of their hit single “I Choose Us,” which music critics praised for its flawless mesh of Americana and gospel into one captivating track.
The sibling band’s origin began quite organically. Their frontman and songwriter for the last six years shares the band’s humble beginnings. “It sounds so typical, but it all started in my college dorm room,” shares Caleb Voth. “I decided to play some of the songs for the family. It was pretty soon after that that we all thought, ‘this stuff would sound pretty good on a recording.'” The Voth siblings are children of ministers and spent most of their childhood growing up singing church songs. Accordingly, music would become embedded into Caleb, Hannah, Cody, and Jacob’s DNA early on.
Following the success of singles like “I Choose Us” and “Sweetest Regret,” Voth launched its self-titled EP album last February this year. The record contains standout tracks like “Right Direction,” “Pyro,” and “Seventeen.” The siblings share the joy of creating songs together, comparing it to a family affair. The band’s chemistry goes beyond their blood relations. Together, Caleb, Hannah, Cody, and Jacob become a master of any stage and easily encapsulate an audience through their music, whether it’s a slow and swaying track or a honky-tonk feature.
Embedded into the hearts of the band members is a collective love for their roots. While most Country music acts move to bigger markets like Nashville or Texas, Voth gives Tulsa’s hometown a chance to thrive. The band mainly works with Tulsa artists, producers, and sound engineers. What results is an original and unique sound that the Southern sounds give to the band’s version of balladeering music.
In the few years that Voth has been publishing and releasing tracks, they’ve picked up considerable momentum in such a short time. On Spotify, the band has been averaging over 7,000 listeners a month. Their top track, “Sweetest Regret,” has gathered close to 300,000 streams and is still growing. Their second-runner-up tune, “I Choose Us,” now has over 130,000 listens. Five of Voth’s songs have now hit five digits in streams on Spotify today.
Voth has overcome many hurdles together, both as a family and as a music group. Whether it was overcoming Jacob’s past heroin addiction or rising the country ranks, the band has always been ready to overcome together. Today, the siblings share a message of hope to all who want to pursue their dreams in life, whether music-related or not. They’re all quick to speak life to the ambitions of dreamers, boldly saying that if they could overcome, anyone can.
