Samantha Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush, has been named the new coach of the District Wide DMPS girls’ high school trackwrestling team. Bush, a former wrestler at Texas A&M, will replace current coach Tom Schultz.

“I am so excited to be joining the DMPS wrestling family,” said Bush. “This is an incredible opportunity and I am committed to doing everything I can to help our students succeed.”

Bush’s appointment comes as no surprise to those that know her. “She is a real treasure and has always had a passion for helping others,” said Schultz. “She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this position and we are confident she will be a great asset to our program.”

Bush replaces Schultz, who led the team to six straight district championships from 2009-2013 and was nominated as Coach of the Year in 2013 by the Houston Wrestling Coaches Association.

Season outlook for the DMPS girls’ high school trackwrestling team

Last year, the DMPS girls’ high school trackwrestling team finished fourth out of five teams in the district. Samantha Bush was already assign the team’s head coach for this campaign.

Bush has a lot of experience coaching wrestling and she is excited to get started this season. However she has been working with the team to figure out their goals for the season and she wants them to work hard to improve their skills.

The team is hoping to improve their record this season and earn a spot in the state championships. They will therefore stop at nothing to achieve their objectives since they are adamant about winning.

After a successful inaugural season, the District Wide DMPS girls’ high school trackwrestling team is looking forward to a successful 2016-17 season. Coach Samantha Bush will lead the team as they compete in both the Interscholastic League of Philadelphia and the Suburban One League.

The season opens with an exhibition match against South Philadelphia High School on September 10th at Franklin High School. However, the regular season will consist of matches against each of the other 11 schools in the league. However, with home and away matches against each. Hence the team is hoping to finish off the regular season with a trip to the Suburban One League championships in February.

Coach Bush is excited for this year’s team, commenting on their potential: “We have a really talented bunch of girls this year. Also I’m looking forward to seeing how they develop and grow as a team as we compete in both leagues.”
