Julie Ann Weiler is a San Diego-based singer-songwriter with a message of hope. Her music inspires listeners to pursue their dreams, no matter how buried or hidden they may seem. Julie Ann believes that what’s meant for you will never pass you by, and that dreams don’t die. Life circumstances or personal choices may cause our dreams to get buried or hidden, but she believes that we can revisit them when the timing is right.
Born into a traveling musical missionary family, Julie Ann grew up singing and dancing in her family’s show troupe. Her father, a songwriter, would randomly wake up in the middle of the night to mumble words and melody into his mini Casio recorder, which he later turned into a song. Julie Ann knew right away that she wanted this magic for herself and began writing songs at the age of 10.
Traveling across the U.S., Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia with her family, Julie Ann performed for audiences ranging from orphanages and homeless shelters to restaurants, a local channel’s morning TV show, a ballroom of dignitaries, and even the White House lawn on Easter Sunday. Her family was often compared to the Von Trapp Family Singers.
Julie Ann pursued a career in the music industry, winning talent competitions, getting songs placed on popular TV shows, and recording an EP in Nashville. However, as the 2008 recession hit, she was faced with the decision to either give her all to her budding music career or to her growing family. She chose the latter and continued to write songs, sing her kids to sleep, and perform whenever and wherever possible, all while building a family business in the special events industry.
It wasn’t until her own daughters began to successfully pursue their own artistry in the form of musical theater that Julie Ann felt an awakening deep within her heart. The urge to answer the call she’d felt since childhood became stronger than the fear holding her back from taking a chance again at this stage in her life as a wife, mother, and business owner.
Despite the stigma that in order to be relevant in the music industry, one needs to be under 21 and unattached, Julie Ann couldn’t keep her passion for creating meaningful music held down any longer. In late 2019, she recommitted herself to sharing her songs and her story with others. Within days of this decision, a producer friend she hadn’t heard from in years reached out from faraway New Zealand, saying, “I think the world needs another Julie album, what do you say?”
Julie Ann said yes and recorded 2 singles remotely due to the pandemic before joining her friend in Texas to record 12 original songs in 2022. Her latest single, “Something Gets Me,” is the first of this batch of songs to be released. In writing the song, Julie Ann links her heart with that of a recently passed loved one. The song crosses over physical bonds and enters that of the eternal by speaking to a love fusion between both worlds.
Through her music, Julie Ann hopes to encourage others who may be in a place in life where they’re questioning their purpose and what will truly fulfill them. She says that remembering your dreams, however deeply buried they may be, and letting yourself feel worthy of pursuing them can encourage more self-love, which combined with faith and hard work, can lend to those dreams coming true.
What’s meant for you will never pass you by, according to Julie Ann. She is proof that dreams don’t die and that it’s never too late to pursue your passions. Her music inspires listeners to believe in themselves and to chase their dreams, no matter what obstacles may come their way. With her latest single, “Something Gets Me,” Julie Ann continues to share her message of hope and inspiration with the world.
